Neighborhood history
Roots run deep
Country Club Hills grew up next to Carolina Country Club in the years after World War II, with recent sales showing original homes from the early 1950s through the 1970s. Its streets are named for North Carolina counties: Alamance, Yadkin, Transylvania, Beaufort, Buncombe, Pasquotank, Granville, Hertford, Alleghany and Northampton.
After the School of Design opened at N.C. State in 1948, Raleigh became a center for modernist architecture. A Raleigh Historic Development Commission report notes that its modernist architects designed landmark houses in "fashionable neighborhoods of West Raleigh and Country Club Hills."
Today it's one of Raleigh's top addresses for new estate homes. Recent sales range from about $1M for original homes to over $7M for new construction, and some lots overlook the golf course.
